Mel Flanagan on Open Data and Data Storytelling

Mel is a data advocate, designer, storyteller, maker and founder of Nook Studios.

This episode is a fascinating look at the case for Open Data, Government Transparency, and accessible Data Story Telling.

“I think there’s a lot of work to be done and there’s a lot more impetus now, because the public have that awareness that we should have access to that information. That we should know who the government’s doing business with and who they’re buying from. And how much.”

Do you want to help governments and industry make better use of their data?

Making Open is a content design kit and a channel to connect data and transparency advocates with government and industry changemakers.

The kit has a series of visualisations and explainers to help people simply understand the policies, processes and data systems that need to be in place and connected to make positive social change happen.

It was made by the Nook crew with the help of over a 100 local and global transparency organisations, advocates, and policy makers.

If you are interested in supporting the launch of this project, you can make a donation through the Australia Cultural Fund (donations are tax deductible for Australians).
