ADSEI is running a free STEM Education Teacher Professional Development Day with the generous support of Google Australia. We are excited to announce that the workshop will be hosted by ThoughtWorks Australia, 23/303 Collins St Melbourne 3000 on Tuesday November 12 from 9:30 until 3pm.

The workshop will teach teachers how to use real projects to empower students to create change in their communities, at the same time as covering the curriculum and building links to other subjects.
Teachers from all disciplines and year levels are invited to participate.
There will also be the opportunity to hear from professional Data Scientists about the impact of Data Science on their work and the world.
Workshop Outline:
Introduction to Data Science, including finding data, making sense of it, analysing it, and communicating results.
Using Real Projects to Create Positive Change in Your Community.
Finding the data in your curriculum.
Developing your own Data Science Projects. We will share project ideas at the end of the day, and they can also be shared online via the ADSEI website.
Facilitator
The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Linda McIver, Founder and Executive Director of the Australian Data Science Education Institute.
Dr Linda McIver started out as an Academic with a PhD in Computer Science Education. When it became apparent that High School teaching was a lot more fun, Linda began a highly successful career at John Monash Science School, where she built innovative courses in Computational and Data Science for year 10 and year 11 students.
Nominated one of the inaugural Superstars of STEM in 2017, Linda is passionate about creating authentic project experiences to motivate all students to become technologically and data literate.
While Linda loves the classroom, it was rapidly becoming clear that teachers in the Australian School system were keen to embrace Data Science, but that there was a serious lack of resources to support that. That’s why Linda created ADSEI – to support Data Science in education.
